Chevrons Proud

Chevrons Proud

From the ashes, the phoenix will rise. Unash, and soar up like eagles. I won't try write about the revival of Zimbabwean cricket. Well i will touch on it. But today, today I'll write about the hope sport inspires to many. The pride we have always, to be seen in our national colours. The role sports plays in keeping Zimbabwean my pride.

In 2010. In the height of my own personal breakdowns. Zimbabwe played a tri-series against India and Sri Lanka. In the end Sri Lanka beat us in the final. But my love for cricket was founded. It then became the national pride carriers, with football having it's own corruption allegations, mismanagement (dispute, to this day. The Zimbabwean football squad being the best in the SADC region. This is a personal opinion). The rugby team getting let down by probably problems only being addressed now(not having leagues in university to keep players playing after highschool.) Watching the Chevrons at that time gave me a fire in my belly. Something I've carried since.
Although at times, being a supporter seems quite lonely at times, unless we're in the stands of the QSC and HSC. We've endured. And we continue to endure. I watch this team Daviding the Goliath's we've come across with the 2010 child in me. Looking on to this masterclass we've been witnessing. And thinking about the children who are watching now. Heroes having changed, but the fire being lit in them being the same.
Where there was Brandon Taylor Raza has taken and given his all. Where Hamilton Masakadza was Wesley Madhevere seemingly slotting in and trying the big boots, hoping to fill them in as time goes. The fire burning stronger than ever in Sean Williams and Craig Ervine.
The mentality these men has shown have made a nation proud. With our current struggles. We have a light, a beacon of hope to keep looking to.
Hoping the other fraternities in Zimbabwe's sporting sphere kick on and play with the same passion everyone backing them have.

Special mentions to Tadiwanashe Marumani, Tino Kaia, Brad Evans and the host of young players who are coming up. And are going to be the face of Chevrons for the years to come.
With other teams doing amazing, the volleyball Gems, the Goshawks and the Zimbabwean hockey teams.
