Happy Again...What we learnt from WINKY D

Happy Again...What we learnt from WINKY D

It has been over one year since Winky D has released. The release has been quizzical with a cross cutting elements of suspense between Winky D’s fans and critics.  Winky D dropped a steller visual act to debut his new single  “Happy Again“ here are a few talking points.

1) The Wait and Suspense Pays

I watched the video premiere on YouTube, it was like Napoleon returning home from a victory people were happy the comments where just coming in. Surely The Gaffa has mastered the skill of creating hype through limiting the releases this style of play has become more of a hype factor.

2) Winky D Remains The Extra Terrestrial

The way he lays off his craft is unique , he went on to outsource video production houses and a foreign crew which is new on a Zimbabwean landscape , this is a surprise to many because the odds were a bit fixated towards Magna Shoca whom he has been working with that was everybody’s best guess. Taking notes from the ninja president’s playbook is suicidal to other artists because musically Winky D is anything but human.

3) It’s Back To The Drawing Board For All Winky D’s Competitors

At this point in time the word on the street is that he is yet to release a party banger or a song in vernacular,  because people feel the title “Happy Again“ was deceiving as everybody was anticipating a party song.  Many artists now feel like the song was a test subject for him to come up with a correct timeframe to release whether the festive is welcoming towards him.

4) It's All About The International Market And The Digital Records

He is here to get more awards home and away. We can reluctantly say it that working class ethic that makes him perform under pressure. He has literally crushed every award he has been nominated with no release and not forgetting to mention his brutal record set today for 410k views in 24 hours the highest by any Zimbabwean artist in 24 hours without any international feature.

5) It's Time For The Gaffa To Reclaim His Throne In His Haters Hearts

Despite the progress done by “Happy Again” it has not done much justice to remove the shackles. People still feel that Winky D still has to release a hit song a song to bring a hype wave the same way “Mugarden” did. Some may argue that was the extinction portal of Winky and he has succumbed to that so its time for him to take up the challenge and step up a bit

The Verdict

Winky D did not dispossess the current song of the year contender, but his visuals are way up uncontested. He still has the Midas touch his lyrics are still profound he still has it still at the top of his game but to obliterate the petty threats to his kingship. He has to release more often not because the fans are in hunger of his lyrical soul food but he is one of the best we have seen.
